Piercing Aftercare

Our recommendation for piercing aftercare includes a 2-step routine, being a cleaning step and a healing step.

Some reminders:

-Do not remove your jewelry at any point during the aftercare process.

-Do not use any additional products for aftercare, including but not limited to, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, polysporin, tea tree oil, crushed aspirin (Or any product that contains these ingredients).

-Avoid sleeping on any fresh piercings (excluding lobe or daith piercings). This instruction is not for comfort or pain reasons, but to keep your piercing from becoming crooked. A crooked piercing cannot be reversed.

-Maintain these aftercare instructions after showering/washing hair, in order to remove any hair product from the piercing area and avoid buildup.

Cleaning step: To clean your piercings, we recommend the Trisan Skin Cleanser, which is an oil-free, soap-free, alcohol-free, and perfume-free cleanser.

Apply a small amount of Trisan onto a clean cotton bud, and apply around the front and back of the piercing hole, and gently remove any crusties, dried blood, or pus that may be in the area.

With another clean cotton bud dipped in warm water, rinse around the front and back of the piercing hole to remove the Trisan cleanser that remains, in order to avoid product buildup. Either pat the area dry with a clean paper towel, or let air dry.

Repeat this step twice daily, morning and night, for 6-8 weeks following a piercing. Following this period, cleanings can be slowed down to be less frequent.

Healing step: To help heal your piercings, we recommend using a sterile saline solution like NeilMed Piercing Aftercare following the cleaning step.

Apply a generous amount of saline around the front and back of the piercing hole, either by spraying it on directly, or using a cotton bud. Then, gently move your jewelry back and forth to allow the saline to go through the piercing channel. This step does not need to be rinsed off.

Repeat this once daily, only at night, following cleaning the piercing. Overusing saline spray (3+ times a day) can dry out the skin around the piercing, leading to further irritation.

In short, clean and rinse your piercing in the morning and at night, and help heal your piercing just at night, with a spray and wiggle.
